Makaha is located on the west side of Oahu and sits at the foot of Mt. Ka'ala. Mt. Ka'ala is the highest point on Oahu at 4,020 feet. Makaha means "fierce" or "savage" in Hawaiian. Makaha is 35 miles from Honolulu/Waikiki and there are several ways to get there - Uber, Public Transportation, or renting a car. Every Saturday morning from 8 am to 12 pm, there is a Farmer's Market at the Waianae Mall. Makaha Beach is said to have officially started professional surfing in the early 1950's but the locals have been known to surf here for hundreds of years before the 1950's rolled around. This beach is also known for several species of turtles that nest here yearly. There are plenty of outdoor activities in Makaha for everyone to take advantage of which include surfing, boogie boarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, numerous other water sports to partake in, hiking, and golfing.
